As I started packing for my trip last night, it dawned on me that I hadn't shared my eco-adventure travel tips with you and have completely failed to mention my upcoming trip to, one of the most eco-friendly countries on the planet, Costa Rica! My fiance and I will be taking off this weekend on a weeklong excursion of the "jungly" habitat. Costa Rica has depended mostly on ecotourism to help maintain its economy and is world renound for its efforts in sustainability infrastructure. Costa Rica is rich in biodiversity. It offers mountains, volcano's, rainforests, beaches and more. The central American country has kept its reputation as an "eco-tourism hot spot" since 1963 when its first environmental protection reserve was created. Currently, an astonishing 21% of the country is in a National Park or protected area. The strict and conservative policy of the Costa Rican government may seem harsh to some in the tourism industry at first, but the long term benefits it creates has now made the country a much sought after destination for environmentalists alike as well as anyone else seeking a high adventure or relaxing beach vacation. The crime rate is among the lowest and the "green" country ranks among the highest in the central American region.
With all the "green" travel talk, I also want to share the "green-value" talk. Traveling right now is cheaper than ever so watch the travel engines closely and jump when you see a great deal. I was able to get roundtrip tickets to San Jose for only $249!! Our hotel and rental car for a week came in just above $550! This trip is both environmentally friendly and economical.
Style Tip: If you're planning a beach vacation this summer, keep it simple. Grab some sun dresses, flip flops and a suit (I picked up a new travel wardrobe with my Ross coupons for a steal)!
